The Friends of St Botolph’s

The Friends of St Botolph’s is a Registered Charity (Charity number 1096540) and since 2002 has been dedicated to raising funds for the upkeep of our Grade 1 listed Church and the churchyard.

In 2017, the Friends were able to support the PCC with an extensive building programme, including replacing the Nave ceiling, contributing £50,000, allowing St Botolph’s Church to go into its second Millennium in a good condition.  In 2021 the south side Chancel roof needed replacing.  The Friends raised money towards this by asking villagers and friends of St Botolph’s, to sponsor new tiles for the roof.  This raised approximately £4,000 and in total we were able to help with £15,000 towards the project.  Over the years the Friends have funded the rebuilding of the Flint Wall around the churchyard, with the work carried out by Hamish McIllwrick, Tim Boyden, Rob Foster and other volunteers.  The Friends have also funded a new bell rope for the Bell Tower and replacement of the Bell Tower bird screens.

The Friends raise money from events throughout the year and from donations. Events range from concerts and talks in the church to Christmas Bazaars and raffles.

The Friends is run by a small committee of villagers, independent of the PCC.  The committee are:-

  •  Lou Symes-Thompson, Chair
  •  Anthony Handley, Treasurer
  •  Marilyn Davey, Secretary
  •  Tim Boyden
  •  Janey Devlin
  •  Sylvia Russell
